Why is Elon Musk so upset with Apple's AI announcement?
If Apple adds OpenAI to their operating system level Apple devices will be banned in my various companies. Such a breach of security cannot be tolerated."
Apple announced that Apple will add AI to the iPhone with access to all apps including Siri. And immediately after that, Tesla boss Elon Musk started firing arrows of offensive tweets.
Immediately after Apple's announcement, Musk sent seven tweets in an hour and six minutes aimed at Apple and OpenAI.
“And visitors have to submit their iPhones at the entrance. They will be kept in Faraday cages.”
A Faraday cage is a cage in which no electromagnetic field acts. (This was written by Musk in the first tweet of the series.)
The companies that Elon Musk heads include social media X, electric car maker Tesla, rocket company SpaceX, brain nervous system company Neuralink and mining company The Boring Company. Musk did not specify where this Faraday cage will be placed on which door.
Musk explained the reason in the next tweet.
“If Apple adds OpenAI to their operating system level, Apple devices will be banned in various of my companies. Such a breach of security cannot be tolerated."
What did Apple say??
After a long wait, the tech giant announced to bring AI to their various devices at Apple's annual manufacturer conference 'WWDC' held in California on Monday.
Apple Intelligence, which the company calls a user personal intelligence system, debuted at WWDC. It's a collection of Apple's features, from text and image creation to Siri, the advanced voice assistant.
Apple has said that the already popular AI chatbot will be added to Apple devices in coordination with ChatGPT.
Tweet outpouring:
Soon after Apple's announcement on Monday, Musk also wrote in the early hours of Tuesday:
"Unbelievable that Apple isn't smart enough to build their own AI. And it is absolutely impossible to guarantee that OpenAI will protect your security and privacy!”
“Apple has no idea what happens when they give your data to OpenAI. They will just sell you and throw you in the river.” - He wrote in the same tweet.
Elon Musk already has a long history with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
Musk's relationship with the company, which was one of the founders of OpenAI, is now a snake-like one.
Musk left the company shortly after its founding, and he accused OpenAI of failing to follow its founding principles.
What will Apple do??
Apple will improve Siri with its new AI system, which will have access to any user's app and become a mine of information, reports British media Sky News.
Apart from its own efforts with generative AI, Apple has confirmed the agreement with OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT.
In the announcement, Apple said the new AI system will be integrated with user privacy in mind and will handle most of the device's processes by the system itself.
Any external computing will be done through a new method called 'Private Cloud Compute', which Apple claims will keep users' data safe. Even before sharing anything with OpenAI, the company says users must get permission.
Some of the world's biggest companies, such as Microsoft and Google, have gone ahead of Apple in using their own AI. However, Apple also entered the AI race with its AI announcement this week.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company's own products will "definitely" have AI features in the coming years.
